How your gift is spent

A gift to Clare College in your will can endow a scholarship or bursary; help to restore Old Court, Memorial Court or the Colony; support the general endowment of the College; or benefit a specific project close to your heart.

It is often assumed that only large gifts are suitable for creating a personal memorial or endowing a named fund in perpetuity. However, every legacy, large or small, can make a real difference.

Examples of what a gift in your will could be used for:

  • a gift of £3,000 will endow a named prize to reward academic achievement.
  • a gift of £30,000 will endow a bursary of £1,000 a year to help support a student in financial need.
  • a gift of £120,000 will endow a tutorship or fellowship, to support the College's pastoral and academic provision.
  • a gift of £240,000 will endow a graduate studentship.
  • a gift of £280,000 will endow singing lessons for the members of the world-famous Clare Choir.
  • a gift of £560,000 will endow the purchase of books for the Forbes Mellon Library.
  • a gift of £750,000 will endow a Junior Research Fellowship, to support a leading young academic at the start of their career.
  • a gift of £1 million will endow the provision of IT facilities for the whole College.
  • a gift of £1.6 million will endow the Directorship of Music.
