Corporate support

The academic rigour of College-based supervisions and the broad perspective offered by College life are principal reasons why Cambridge graduates are in such high demand by employers.

To help maintain this world-class undergraduate education, Clare College is keen to build strong and mutually beneficial relationships with companies – recognising that businesses' long-term futures also depend upon a steady stream of high-calibre graduates.

Clare has a strong tradition of corporate support for its access, academic, extra-curricular and outreach programmes, through sponsorship and philanthropic gifts. Current corporate partners include Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance, Data Connection, KPMG, Linklaters, and Lovells.

Opportunities for corporate links

Clare welcomes corporate support for all aspects of the College's educational provision:

•  fixed-term or endowment funding of named bursaries, teaching and research fellowships;

•  sponsorship or endowment funding of the College's IT and Library provision;

•  funding improvements to the College's buildings and facilities;
•  sponsorship of the world-renowned Clare College Choir, and College sports clubs.

Corporate Bursaries Programme

As part of its commitment to attracting and supporting talented students from less well-off backgrounds, Clare College has established a programme of named bursaries, funded by corporate donors:

•  Bursaries of £2,000 a year will be awarded to students who are eligible for partial or full remission of their fees, as assessed by the Local Education Authority.
•  Named bursaries are already provided by Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance, KPMG and Linklaters.
•  Clare College is actively seeking further corporate partners for its bursary programme, and will be pleased to give appropriate recognition and publicity to donors, including the naming of individual bursaries.
•  In return for naming a bursary, Clare seeks a commitment from its corporate bursary partner to provide £2,000 per annum over a four-year period: sufficient to provide a bursary to a student for the duration of their degree course.
•  The College is happy to earmark a named bursary for a student from a particular geographical area, and/or reading a specified subject, where circumstances permit.

Corporate benefits

Clare will be happy to recognise corporate support in the most appropriate way, including:

•  an enhanced recruitment profile for your company in Clare and Cambridge;
•  access to Clare undergraduates, in the form of careers presentations, and invitations to address student societies;
•  information about sabbatical opportunities in Cambridge for senior executives.

Tax-efficient gifts

Gifts of cash

Clare College is an exempt charity, number X3883. UK companies can therefore make gifts to Clare College under the Gift Aid scheme. There is no requirement for companies to give the College a Gift Aid declaration. Moreover, companies no longer deduct tax from their Gift Aid donations, but simply pay the College the full donation and claim tax relief when calculating their profits for Corporation Tax.

Gifts of listed shares and securities, and real property

UK companies can get Corporation Tax relief on gifts of listed shares, securities or real property to Clare College. This is in addition to relief from Corporation Tax on capital gains on such gifts.

For further information about building a link between your company and Clare College, please contact the Development Director, who will be pleased to discuss the options.
