If you would like to attend one of our Open Days please complete a booking form and return it to the Admissions Secretary, Shelley Spaxman, email: ses58@cam.ac.uk, who will then reply with confirmation. It is very important that you book with us in advance as the College only has limited space. Please note it is only necessary to attend ONE Cambridge College Open Day as the programmes will be very similar.
The College will be open in the afternoon to those attending the Cambridge Open Days. There is no need to book with the College to attend this part of the day but you should book to attend the overall Cambridge Open Days. For more information about the Cambridge Open Days and to book a place for this event please visit: http://www.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/opendays/cambridge/.
Are you thinking of applying to Cambridge? If you are a student thinking of applying to Cambridge University and in particular to Clare College, then do come to one of our Open Days. As well as having a look around the College, you will get to find out more about how the Cambridge system works and about the courses we offer and our entry requirements. There will also be current undergraduates around to talk to you about their experiences of studying here. We particularly welcome teachers accompanying school or college groups, and offer teachers their own session with Admissions Tutors while school or college students are with the Directors of Studies.
What happens at a Clare Open Day?
- A presentation by the Admissions Tutors, Senior Tutor and students
- Informal subject sessions with the Director of Studies
- Interview Workshops (follow on from the subject sessions)
- Parents' Question and Answer Session with an Admissions Tutor
- Admissions Tutors' meeting for teachers with the Schools Liaison Officer
- Self tours of the College and its facilities
- There will be time to visit the Town Centre and other Cambridge Colleges close by.
You can wander round Clare and look at some student rooms, the Chapel, the Main Hall, the Forbes Mellon Library, the Junior Common Room and the gardens. Please note viewing student rooms cannot usually be arranged at another time as students are living in them.
Is accommodation available?
Limited accommodation is only offered for our Open Days in July, and priority is given to those that cannot travel to Cambridge and back home in the same day. The charge for accommodation is £11.00 per night, including an evening meal and a continental breakfast. Due to limited space we cannot offer accommodation to parents. If you are a school group wishing to stay overnight we can accommodate up to 10 students and two teachers.
Travel It is NOT advisable to drive to Clare. Parking is non-existent and very expensive (up to £25 per day) and gridlock is an everyday occurrence. We suggest that you consider the Park-and-Ride system, which is excellent and will save you time, as well as parking charges. Detailed information about travel can be found on the Clare webpage Maps and Directions.
What if I can't make it to an Open Day? Don't worry too much if you are unable to attend any of the pre-arranged Open Days. We know that this is not always possible.
You are very welcome to visit Clare at any time. If you tell the Custodians/Porters that you are a prospective student they will let you in without charging you the usual tourist fee and will point you in the direction of the Admissions Office should you want further information about Admissions. The Admissions Office is open from 9.00-5.00 (except weekends). You are very welcome to look round the College, but we regret we are unable to arrange conducted tours and cannot promise to arrange meetings with Admissions Tutors - although we would always try.
It is very important to emphasise that candidates who have not visited the College are not in any way disadvantaged in the admissions process.
