Offers
Conditional offers are
set following interviews on A2 level grades: typically AAA but individual
variations may occur. Candidates taking examinations other
than A level will be considered for offers at an appropriate level.
It is difficult to indicate in advance the precise combinations
of grades that will be set. It is usual that the top 4% of
candidates in the UK apply to Cambridge, with this in mind, we would
be looking for candidates who are not in the UK examination system
to be in the same educational percentile.
(All applicants to read
the Mathematics Tripos will be expected to sit STEP).
We do not set offers based on Advanced Extension Exams.
Clare has applicants from many different
school systems, and we tailor our offers to suit each of them:

| Scottish Advanced

3 AH subjects, or 2 AH and further Highers, and our offer
would be at the level of AAA or AAB. We are also happy for Scottish
candidates to take a mix of AH and A2 levels, and would pitch
our offer at the same level. |
| Irish Leaving Certificate |
candidates should be taking at least 6 subjects at Higher
level, and to gain 4 As and 2 Bs. |
| American Advanced Placements |
We would usually expect an excellent SATS record. We do not
have target scores as such, but past experience is that applicants
are in the 700s. We make offers instead on the basis of Advanced
Placements. We would usually ask for 4 or 5 APs, with those
closest to the proposed field of study at level 5. A typical
offer would be 5 APs, with scores of four 5s and a 4. |
| International Baccalaureate |
7,7,6 in relevant subjects, with at least 2 at higher level,
and 39 overall. We accept that candidates may sometimes be taking
their proposed subject of study as a subsidiary subject for
the IB. In that case, we would ask for a 7 in that subject at
subsidiary level. |
| European Baccalaureate |
Arts : 8.0, with 8.5 in the Arts subjects
closest to the proposed field of study. Sciences
: 8.5, with 9.0 in the Science subjects closest to the proposed
field of study. |
| French Baccalaureate |
an overall ‘mention tres bien'. In some science subjects,
however, we may stipulate that particular marks should be at
the level of 16+for the subjects closest to the proposed field
of study. |
| Arbitur |
1,2 or less, and definitely not greater than 1,3. In some
science subjects, we may stipulate particular marks (14 or 15)
for the subjects closest to the proposed field of study. |
Cambridge Special Access
(CSAS) asks schools/colleges to provide additional information and
a much fuller reference than usual. This enables the Cambridge colleges
to assess applicants more fairly, especially in deciding on appropriate
levels for conditional offers.
If you are taking an examination
that is not covered by this table, please contact the Admissions
Office for further information.
