Affiliated Students
How
to apply
Applicants for entry to
Clare in 2009 must
submit a UCAS application by the 15 October 2008.
Further information about affiliated students can be found at http://www.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/apply/otherroutes.html#affiliated
Eligibility
You may apply as an Affiliated Student if you are a graduate
with an approved degree from another university. You must also
have been a member of an institution of higher education for
three years in advance of obtaining your degree. Once accepted as
an Affiliated Student, you are able to complete in two years of
study - the requirement for the Cambridge BA degree.
You must also have fluent
English.
A standard way of demonstrating this is to take the Cambridge Certificate
of Proficiency in English: details are available from the Director
of English as a Foreign Language, Local Examinations Syndicate,
1, Hills Road, Cambridge CB1 2EU, tel: +44 1223 553311 or email
info@ucles.org.uk.
Candidates with a TEFL qualification should have scored at least
575 points to demonstrate the required level of fluency.
You should also note the
universitys general minimum matriculation
requirements, details of which are given in the Undergraduate
Prospectus. Candidates with qualifications other than GCSE and A-level
may be exempted on application by the College to the University.
In this case, however, candidates must still fulfil the same broad
requirements: English language at a high level, a language other
than English, a mathematical or scientific subject, and two other
subjects. Three or more of these must be at a level roughly equivalent
to GCSE, and two to A-level (A2 level) standard.
Courses
Most Affiliated Students
take the last two years of an undergraduate course. You should
consult the Undergraduate Prospectus to find out which subjects
can be studied in this way.
Affiliated Students
at Clare
There is no fixed quota at Clare for Affiliated Students: the
College usually takes 1 or 2 a year, depending on the number and
quality of applicants. Candidates should usually have a good
First Class degree, and strong support from their referees. We do
not usually interview applicants, since they already have an
established track record of achievement at university level.
We place the files of good candidates to
whom we are unable to make an offer into the inter-college pool
for Affiliated Students, in which other Colleges can consider their
applications. See also Overseas Candidates
and International
Costs.
