The College seeks applications for a Harrison Watson Senior Studentship to run for one year initially but extendable a year at a time up to a normal maximum of three years from the date of election. It is intended that the Studentship will allow the successful applicant to become fully involved in the life of the College on a par with

the Fellows.

The Studentship was endowed for "the encouragement of research into the causes and cure of tuberculosis and/or other diseases of an allied character" but the wording is interpreted in the widest possible way and is now extended to include research in all fields related to medicine. Applicants should normally be, or be in the process of becoming, Members of the University, be suitably qualified and be studying, or about to start studying, for a higher degree. Applicants should be financially independent or should already have funding sufficient to pay both fees and maintenance for themselves and their dependants for all of the time they hold the studentship. The successful applicant will be expected to become a member of the College and work in Cambridge.

The Student will be a member of the Senior Combination Room and have the same dining rights as a Fellow. The cost of meals will be paid for by the Fund, which will also provide financial assistance with the reasonable costs of travel associated with research, provided they are agreed in advance by the Committee and do not exceed a maximum per annum stipulated by the Committee. The student will be eligible to apply for other reasonable expenses (such as part or full reimbursement of the College fee) and for graduate accommodation if and when available.

Applicants should write to The Administrator of the Harrison Watson Committee, Clare College, Cambridge, CB2 1TL, describing how they hope to benefit from the Studentship and the contribution they will make to the intellectual life of the college. They should provide a brief description of the research they will be doing, the names of two referees and a full curriculum vitae. If laboratory facilities are needed for their proposed research, they should provide a letter from a Head of Department or other suitable person confirming that the necessary facilities will be available.
