Road You should note that much of Cambridge City Centre is pedestrianised, traffic is restricted and the one-way system confusing to many.
Car parking is severely restricted at Clare College (please see below) and wherever possible you should use Park and Ride. It is very expensive to park in Cambridge, there are very few car parks, many yellow lines and parking restrictions everywhere! Cambridge Park and Ride buses provide a very convenient and economical way of getting into Cambridge - it is in fact the most direct route to the heart of the City. Parking is free and the bus price is £2.00 return. (Please note that times may vary during public holidays). There are five Park and Ride site parks located on main routes into Cambridge, and buses run about every 10 minutes. For Cambridge Park-and-Ride information contact (01223) 718167 or email: parkandride@cambridgeshire.gov.uk Rail Cambridge is less than an hour away from London by train with frequent departures from King's Cross and Liverpool Street stations. Some direct services operate from Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and Nottingham. Cambridge Station is about a 25 minute walk from Clare, but buses run every 8 minutes into the centre of Cambridge and taxis are available for hire at Cambridge Station. Coach There are frequent services between London's Victoria Coach Station and Drummer Street Bus Station in Cambridge. Most services will terminate from Cambridge Bus Station, from here it is only a 5-minute walk to Clare Old Court. Air Stansted Airport is located just 30 miles south of Cambridge, is 35 minutes away via the M11 motorway and is the most convenient international airport but there are also regular flights from most European destinations. Heathrow and Gatwick are both approximately 2 hours away by road or rail, and there are frequent coach connections to Cambridge (Drummer Street Bus Station) from all three airports. NB: If taking a taxi be sure to ask to be dropped off at Clare College, Memorial Court in Queen's Road. Car parking is severely restricted
at Clare College by the limited area available to accommodate vehicles
due to the size and layout of the grounds. Therefore, all parking
within the College is strictly controlled and prior approval to
park, including notification of vehicle details, must be arranged
with the Head Porter well in advance of your visit. Special provision
is made on the occasions when students are coming up or going down
from College to allow short stay parking to set down or pick up
possessions when individual applications to park are not required.
The Head Porter will also advise on arrangements for disability
